The Basic Panel is our smaller size Threat Level IIIa (3A) Panel. We designed this panel for the smaller pack or bag and a budget that puts this product in more peoples' hands. This is the same level of anti-ballistic protection found in all of our standard size ballistic panel products but made small enough to fit in smaller packs, purses and budgets. Simply insert the panel in your favorite bag for instant Threat Level IIIA Ballistic protection. You can even swap your panel(s) from bag to bag. Threat level IIIa panels are approx. 1/4 inch thick and will fit discretely in most packs, courier bags and larger purses.
For less than the cost of an iPod you can make any bag or pack, from your Thomas the Train to your NorthFace daypack, a Threat Level IIIa anti-ballistic shield. Now there is no reason to leave yourself or your loved ones exposed to the threat of random violence.
Ballistic Protection also saves lives in bomb fragmentation and explosive incidents. There are thousands of cases of shrapnel being stopped by body armor. However, shrapnel and fragments can take so many shapes and forms that it is very difficult to "rate" the levels of protection. Ammunition based rating systems, like the NIJ Threat Level system, seem to be the best way to measure the strength of a material in a projectile impact test. Threat Level 3a is the HIGHEST level of protection available in soft body armor (vests). BulletBlocker UHMWPE UD (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) Laminations are a Spectra Type, unique lightweight composite material providing superior anti-ballistic protection, for both personnel and vehicle protection. UD stands for "unidirectional": In UHMWPE UD Laminations, all the fibers are laid parallel, in the same plane, rather than being woven together. UHMWPE UD Laminations are made of several layers of UHMWPE fibers, with the direction of fibers in each layer at 90 degree to the direction of the fibers in the adjacent layers. The unidirectional configuration of the fibers in UHMWPE UD Laminations allows the energy transferred from the impact of a bullet or other ballistic threat to be distributed along the fibers much faster and more efficiently than in conventional woven aramid type fabrics. This is because the absorption power of the yarn in woven fabrics is lost at the crossover points, as these points reflect rather than absorb the shockwaves of the impact. In UHMWPE UD Laminations, much more of the material is engaged in stopping the bullet, making it more effective against ballistics. Dyneema UD PE and Spectra are typical UHMWPE UD laminate materials. The polyethylene base material makes this one of the most moisture resistant anti-ballistic materials available.
