1. How can I know what type of protection is best for me?
We've tried to make this as easy as possible for you as our focus is on adding protection to what you most likely already do in your daily routine? Do you carry a backpack to work or school? A gym bag? A briefcase? A notebook? All of our products are lightweight, airport friendly, and meet the same standards of NIJ Threat Level IIIA protection law enforcement uses. Almost all of our products are discreet, no one will notice that these regular, every day items have anti-ballistic protection in them. Obviously the Bright Orange Safety Vest is going to stand out, which is good if you are a hunter or working in areas with high traffic. The Defender Plus vest is also not concealable, but if you work as a civilian and would like extra protection the Executive Vest is a one-size fits all, concealable vest.
So, our recommendation is to select an item based upon what you already do and already use. As well, you can purchase our large or small anti-ballistic panels and insert them into your favorite backpack or briefcase, easily. We offer custom-made panels, too. It's mainly deciding upon the utility you want, the color, and in some cases the size.
5. Can you ship to my country?
We can ship to 185 countries worldwide - Yes, that includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and everywhere else except those listed on the restricted trade/no trade list of the United States.
6. Where can I find an independent or official explanation of what Threat Level IIIA means?
The best place to find all of the information regarding standards for body armor is with the National Institute of Justice Standards Testing page. There is an enormous amount of information there. As there is a lot to look through, you can find the actual technical standards in Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor NIJ Standard - 0101.06 by Office of Law Enforcement Standards, National Institute of Standards and Technology - July 2008. For a simpler explanation, complete with the history and development of body armor, Wikipedia's Ballistic Vest page also has very good information. While we could tell you what Threat Level IIIA is and means, a lot of customers want an independent and unbiased description. Our test results from HP White Laboratory, Inc. are available for public viewing. We also have several of our own product demonstrations and numerous independent media YouTube videos, and others who have put our products on the firing line.
7. What do you mean by "bulletproof"?
No body armor is 100% bulletproof. Shoot at it enough and eventually something will get through. The term bulletproof is the most active, common vernacular used to describe what are technically defined as anti-ballistic and bullet resistant devices. There is a wide range of other terms like tactical vest, second chance vest, anti-ballistic vest, PPE (personal protective equipment within a very broad context). Kevlar vests and helmets are also well known from their use by the military. Kevlar refers to a specific type of material under its own patent, but it is not the only anti-ballistic material in active use. We would refer to the the National Institute of Justice standards to more accurately define what is meant, and our videos to demonstrate it - this one shows our panels taking 70 rounds without a penetration. There is always a chance that something may get through, but in meeting Theat Level IIIA standards - the videos are pretty convincing that it will take some serious doing.
8. Of what use is a bulletproof backpack if I am threatened by someone from the front?
Our bulletproof backpacks work just as well as a shield. Obviously, you are more aware of threats to your front than any that may be behind you. There is not much anyone or anything can do against a surprise attack, but in most cases you will a hear a gunshot or see someone with a gun and have a few seconds to react - to grab your backpack and seek cover. The vast majority of your vital organs are located in your mid to upper torso - so using it as a shield or crouching next to cover and using it over your head, reduce your target profile and the chance an attacker can cause you a life threatening injury.
9. Where can I find out more about UHMWPE, Spectra and Dyneema anti-ballistic materials?
Again, one of the best places to check out is Wikipedia's page on Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene for an independent perspective. We also include information about UHMWPE materials on each of our product pages below the product description.
10. Can BulletBlocker products be carried on a commercial airline?
Yes. The BulletBlocker panels, themselves or integrated into a backpack or notebook pose no threat and can be seen through at the x-ray security checkpoints. There are no instances of anyone being inconvenienced or stopped because of our inserts or integrated liners.
